When it comes to golf wedges, it can be overwhelming to see all the different options available. Different lofts, grinds, and bounce angles can make it difficult to know which wedge to choose for a given shot. What is a Wedge?

First, let鈥檚 talk about what a wedge actually is. A wedge has the shortest shaft, the highest loft, and is a high-lofted club most frequently used around the green and fairway. Wedges specialize in hitting the ball high and spinning the ball once it lands. Like we said, different lofts, grinds, and bounce angles can change how each shot is performed, making it challenging to know which wedge is right for your perfect shot.

So Many Options

尝别迟鈥檚 discuss options. There are a variety of loft options when it comes to wedges. Why? These clubs are designed to help golfers navigate different types of shots around the green, such as approach shots, pitches, chips, and bunker shots. Each of these shots requires a different trajectory and distance, which is why wedges are available in a range of lofts. The higher lofted wedges (60, 58, 56 degrees), for example, will produce a higher ball flight and shorter distance, while lower lofted wedges (54, 52, 50, 48 degrees) will produce a lower ball flight and longer distance.

Golf wedges are typically divided into four categories: pitching wedges, gap wedges, sand wedges, and lob wedges. Each of these wedges has a different loft, bounce angle, and grind, which affects the performance and playability of the club. Pitching wedges typically have a loft of around 46 to 48 degrees, while gap wedges have a loft of around 50 to 52 degrees. Sand wedges have a loft of around 54 and 56 degrees, and lob wedges have the highest loft of around 58 to 64 degrees. All four different types of wedges play a unique part in a player's golf game, let's take a closer look into each wedge and learn more about how each club performs.

Pitching Wedge

The pitching wedge is typically the lowest lofted club in a golfer's wedge set. A pitching wedge can be used for both mid-range shots from the fairway/rough and bump-and-run chipping around the green. While a pitching wedge has a higher degree of loft than its partnering irons and is used for high-trajectory shots toward your target, this particular wedge is also a great option for playing low, rolling shots around the green since it also carries less loft than a sand or lob wedge. This is because the low loft lets the ball fly lower and roll further once it lands on the green. The pitching wedge is an all-purpose club, but golfers tend to use it less frequently as they get better at their short game and need more control with chips and pitches. When first starting, most golfers will rely on the pitching wedge as their only wedge, but as you learn more about the other wedges available you will see why using a different wedge based on the shot at hand can take your game from novice to advanced. Being able to play different types of shots with your pitching wedge is a great way to develop a sound short game. Gap Wedge

Next up is the gap wedge. One of the more versatile wedges in our lineup, due to the fact that the gap wedge fills the gap between the pitching wedge and the sand wedge, hence the name. Gap wedges typically have a loft between 50-52 degrees, which is perfect for those approach shots that are too long for the pitching wedge but too short for the sand wedge. Like most golfers, one will find themselves at a yardage point where neither a pitching nor sand wedge is called for. Although more advanced players have the ability to play different types of shots with either club, including a gap wedge is a great option when those in-between yardages come into play without having to alter your swing.

Sand Wedge

The sand wedge is a specialized club that is used for shots around the green. However, as the name suggests, it is more commonly known for assisting with shots from bunkers. Sand wedges typically have a loft between 54-56 degrees, which is perfect for getting the ball out of a bunker and onto the green quickly. However, because of the club鈥檚 heavier weight and large bounce, it is useful for a variety of shots, not strictly those involving sand. The sand wedge is a versatile club that can be played for both high and lower-trajectory shots. By either opening or closing the face when setting up to the ball, a sand wedge can now become three different lofts for any lie you are in.

Lob Wedge

Finally, the lob wedge is usually the highest lofted club in a golfer's bag and is used mainly for those high, soft shots around the green. Depending on your skill level, using a lob wedge may be beneficial or disruptive to your short game. While skilled players have the ability to control the spin of a lob wedge and land it closer to the hole with little-to-no rollout, intermediate golfers 丑补惫别苍鈥檛 developed that skill quite yet. Lob wedges typically have a loft between 58-64 degrees, which is perfect for those shots where you need to get the ball to stop quickly, such as a shot over a bunker or a chip shot over a slope. Beyond the green, the lob wedge is a real lifesaver when it comes to obstacles such as lips in sand traps or even trees in line with your shot. It has been known to save more than a few golfers from some tricky lies along the course, so while it may not be the most versatile club in your bag, it is certainly a useful one to have around when the time is right.

Righty or lefty? 91制片厂 engineers and builds clubs for right-handed and left-handed players.

If you play right-handed, select 鈥渞ight鈥�. If you play left-handed, select 鈥渓eft鈥�.

STEP 3 鈥� CHOOSE YOUR LOFT

A player鈥檚 set up, angle of attack and swing speed can all impact the decision-making process when finding your optimal loft.

A good place to start is by figuring out your swing speed. To gauge this, think about what club you鈥檇 use to hit the ball 150 yards. If you鈥檙e selecting a 7-iron, then your driver swing speed is likely somewhere between 95 and 105 mph. This swing speed would typically have you reaching for a 9 鈥� 10.5-degree driver head.

Now, factor in your ball flight and, more importantly, what you鈥檇 like your ball flight to be. If you鈥檙e looking to have a flatter/lower ball flight, you may even consider a 7-degree loft (available in our GEN5 models).

Often, those with a slower swing speed will benefit from a higher lofted club such as a 12-degree or even a 16-degree which we offer with our 0211 Z Driver.

STEP 4 鈥� PICK YOUR PREFERRED SHAFT FLEX

Check out our recommended shaft flexes below. To find your optimal shaft flex, think about how far you consistently hit your driver to find the best option:

STEP 5 鈥� SELECT SHAFT LENGTH

Club length is determined by your physical stature as well as your consistency. Generally, longer clubs will add more speed but will also increase the dispersion pattern.

As standard, a 91制片厂 Driver shaft is measured at 45 陆 inches. Using our online configurator, you can adjust the shaft length in 1/4-inch increments, dropping down to 44 陆 inches, or up to 46 陆 inches.

Your golf club grip should be comfortable at address. A great way to figure out what grip size you need is to check your glove size. If you鈥檙e wearing a women鈥檚 medium glove or smaller, then an undersize grip with a smaller diameter will likely suit you best. Medium-sized gloves or above often result in standard size grips, but if you wear large or extra-large gloves, it might be better to go with midsize or even oversize grips. WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT ADJUSTING MY DRIVER HOSEL?

Every golfer has a different swing, and accordingly, every golf club should be set up differently. The adaptable hosel found on 91制片厂 Drivers is yet another way to further optimize a player鈥檚 ball flight and performance.

You may want to consider adjusting your loft if you are struggling to hit straight drives or if you want a little more launch height from the tee.

HOW TO REMOVE YOUR GEN5 DRIVER HEAD FROM THE SHAFT

Step 1. Your 91制片厂 driver comes with a tool called a torque wrench 鈥� grab that wrench and remove the silicon tip.

Step 2. On the heel side of the driver鈥檚 sole, use the torque wrench to unscrew and separate the clubhead from the shaft.

ADJUSTING YOUR 91制片厂 GEN5 DRIVER

When you鈥檝e removed the driver head from the shaft, you鈥檒l see the settings marked on the hosel sleeve.

Step 1. To reattach the driver head to the shaft with your preferred setting, line up the hosel sleeve with the small dot found on the heel side of the clubhead (right above the 鈥淕EN5鈥� mark).

Step 2: Once the clubhead and the shaft are reconnected, use your torque wrench to tighten and lock the screw. The driver head and shaft are safely connected when you hear a double 鈥渃lick.鈥�

HOW CHANGING THE HOSEL SETTING CAN INFLUENCE BALL FLIGHT AND TRAJECTORY

So, what can an adjustment to your driver hosel actually do? Adjusting your driver鈥檚 hosel settings allows you to fine-tune its loft and lie angle, which will impact ball flight. Get it dialed in and you can launch balls higher or lower depending on your preference鈥攁nd if you play golf often, getting familiar with these adjustments can give you a winning edge as your swing changes or inclement weather hits!

Adjust for a Fade Bias - The 91制片厂 setting is the flattest position at -3 degrees 鈥� this will create a more fade bias driver.

Adjust for a Draw Bias 鈥� Adjust the hosel to the most upright setting 鈥� the Standard 鈥淒ot鈥� setting.

WHAT DOES SWING WEIGHT MEAN?

Swing weight is important in order to maintain consistency throughout the set. We use swing weight to ensure clubs of different lengths and weights feel the same during a swing. Consistent swing weights help to ensure a more similar feel from one club to the next. During 91制片厂鈥檚 custom build process, a customer鈥檚 order is built together by Master Builders in a build pod (as opposed to other manufacturers who build clubs on an assembly line using multiple workers). We build each customer鈥檚 clubs, be it one or 14, under exacting conditions to ensure that our commitment to extremely tight performance tolerances is met.

HOW IS SWING WEIGHT MEASURED?

The swing weight of a golf club is assessed on a 14-inch fulcrum which measures where its balance point falls on the scale. The heavier the club, the more the club will tilt toward the clubhead side when balanced on that fulcrum.

There are multiple swing weight ranges from A to G. Each range has 10 specific values within it, from 0 to 9. The lightest possible swing weight is A0 while the heaviest possible swing weight is G9. If you pick up a men's golf club off-the-rack with stock options, the most common average weight would be about D1-D3, and the off-the-rack women's clubs weight about C5-C7.

DOES SWING WEIGHT IMPACT PERFORMANCE?

An important part of golf club head weight is its effect on swing dynamics. Swing dynamics, for those not familiar with that term, refer to factors such as swing speed, trajectory, etc. Since a golfer鈥檚 swing is going to vary from player to player and from swing to swing depending on what he or she hits in any given moment (from a driver to a sand wedge), golf club head weight matters in terms of how it will impact their swings on a shot-by-shot basis. Thus, while one golfer might find that they prefer an extremely light head-weighted golf club over other options due to their individual needs, another player might choose differently based on how they want their ball flight to look each time they step up onto the tee box.

Swing weight can be important for consistency of contact because it can affect a player鈥檚 swing tempo. Players with a quick transition may find that a heavier swing weight creates a smoother motion at the top of the back swing.

DOES A LIGHTER SWING WEIGHT INCREASE SWING SPEED?

The mass or weight of a golf club shaft affects both a player's timing and power. Lightweight shafts are typically best for beginner golfers or those with slower swing speeds to help the player maintain speed through their swing. The total weight distribution (head, grip, and butt) of your clubs can affect how you hit each club through impact, as well as the ball speed, spin, and flight.

A well-balanced club should be light enough so that you can use proper form when swinging your golf club. For example, if the total weight of a club is too heavy for a person, they won't be able to develop the necessary momentum and consistency in their swing.

Head weight changes can affect trajectory because head weight affects shaft performance (and therefore how the head is delivered at impact). A heavier head will cause the shaft to play weaker than a lighter head.

HOW DO YOU INCREASE THE HEAD WEIGHT OF AN IRON?

DOES SHAFT LENGTH IMPACT SWING WEIGHT?
